The UCT Lung Institute is looking for a Medical Officer to provide clinical support and conduct paediatric and adolescent research activities in accordance with study protocols and clinical research requirements.

This role is offered under the University of Cape Town Lung Institute’s own employment terms and conditions, which are separate from UCT conditions of service.
What you bring:
  • MBChB
  • Registered as an independent medical practitioner with the HPCSA.
  • Experience in Paediatric HIV and Tuberculosis.
  • Experience in medical research studies.

  • 🎯 What you’ll own:
  • Screen and enrol eligible participants.
  • Conduct clinical assessments and physical examinations.
  • Collect study specimens (e.g. blood, sputum etc.) as required.
  • Monitor participant health and clinical outcomes.
  • Provide clinical management and follow-up of study participants.
  • Manage laboratory results and referrals.
  • Monitor TB treatment regimens and schedules with treating physicians.
  • Ensure study clinical procedures are completed according to study protocols.
  • Oversee clinical team activities and study visits.
  • Monitor and report adverse events and safety concerns.
  • Maintain accurate clinical and study documentation.
  • Support study administration and monthly reporting.
  • Maintain on-call hours for study participant medical events in rotation with other clinical team members
📍 Role Information:
  • Fixed Term Contract (12 Months)
  • Monday to Friday | 40 hours per week
  • Based at Redcross, Cape Town
