Our client is seeking a self-sufficient, independent, qualified and EXPERIENCED Hotel Accountant who will be responsible for the entire accounting function of three hotels in Johannesburg, South Africa, while also handling specific operational duties 
at the buildings. Key duties and responsibilities include the monthly preparation and presentation of the group accounts, banking activities, the implementation and oversight of internal financial controls and processes, as well as assisting in an ad-hoc basis on strategic financial decisions and planning.
The individual will need to work with limited oversight and 
high degree of accountability. The role allows for growth into an executive function for the right candidate and will be working closely with the head office team on a weekly basis.

We consider the following as essential:


Qualifications and Experience:
  • BCom Degree in Accounting.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a hotel accountant position within hotels.
  • Experience working with computer and Microsoft Outlook, Adobe, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word),
  • Experience on Xero and Syft Analytics,
  • Experience on Semper would be advantageous,
  • Experience in the real estate / hospitality sector only
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monthly bookkeeping (Xero), management accounts and financial statement preparation
  • Processing and loading of payments
  • Tax and VAT submission preparation
  • Audit support and liaison
  • Statutory and secretarial compliance (CIPC)
  • Monthly presentation of management accounts
  • Cash Flow forecasting and budgeting
  • Handle the day-to-day accounting function
  • Prepare and present monthly management accounts to the executive team, quarterly updates and AGM to the shareholders
  • Monitor and oversee the effectiveness of financial controls,
  • Management and collection of debtors
  • Cash management, including reserving for future expenses
  • Banking (load payments, cash deposits at various sites)
  • Oversight and maintenance of the outsourced payroll
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, standards and best practices that would be applicable to finances of the business, which includes compliance with accounting standards and group accounting policies
  • Produce management information on the business performance and capital structure that allow for timely and accurate decision making of the executive team and shareholders
  • Finalise the annual trial balance for audit with reconciliations
  • Ensure statutory and tax compliance
  • Complete and submit monthly VAT returns accurately 
  • Prepare budgets for the properties and ensure monthly compliance with them
  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards
  • Provide overall financial accounting support, including financial reporting, financial audit support, financial analyses and other projects
