Rustenburg area – North West: The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily care, handling, and management of livestock to ensure optimal health, productivity, and welfare, while supporting overall farm operations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 5 years cattle experience
- Basic experience working with livestock (cattle/sheep/goats)
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Basic understanding of animal health and handling practices
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently
- Valid driver’s licence (advantageous)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TOAnimal Care & Welfare
- Feed livestock according to farm schedules and nutritional plans
- Ensure continuous access to clean water
- Monitor livestock health and report illness, injury, or abnormal behaviour
- Assist with vaccinations, dosing, dipping, and treatment of animals
- Handle animals humanely in accordance with welfare standards
Livestock Handling & Movement
- Move livestock between camps, grazing areas, and handling facilities
- Sort animals by age, weight, or condition when required
- Assist with loading and offloading livestock for transport or sale
- Operate livestock handling equipment (kraals, crush, raceways)
Farm Maintenance
- Inspect and repair fences, gates, and livestock enclosures
- Maintain water points, troughs, and related infrastructure
- Monitor grazing conditions and prevent overgrazing
- Ensure livestock are contained within designated areas
Record Keeping
- Record births, deaths, treatments, and livestock movements
- Maintain basic stock and feed records
- Report losses, theft, or discrepancies immediately
Equipment & General Duties
- Operate farm vehicles and equipment where authorised
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
- Assist with branding, tagging, and identification of livestock
- Perform general farm duties as required
Security Responsibilities
- Remain vigilant to prevent stock theft and trespassing
- Report suspicious activity immediately
- Assist with livestock security measures and patrols if required
