Pretoria Area, Gauteng Province – South Africa: The role combines farm management, team leadership and customer experience. You will report to the Operations Manager.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 
 

• A qualification in agriculture or horticulture advantageous
• Experience in agritourism, events or hospitality
• A real passion for farming, flowers and people
• Experience growing cut flowers
• Green fingers and a good understanding of how to grow a crop
• Basic knowledge of fertilising and spraying programmes
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team
• A sharp eye for detail and quality
• Friendly, outgoing and great with visitors
• Practical, hands-on and willing to help wherever needed
• Takes ownership, initiative and pride in their work
• Farming, nursery or landscaping experience
• English, Afrikaans and another local language
• A valid driver's licence

 
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
 
Growing

• Plan and manage planting, growing and harvesting
• Run the fertilising and spraying programmes
• Manage irrigation and keep tools and equipment in
• good working order
• Keep the farm neat, well-kept and inviting

Quality and Records

• Check the quality of every flower that is harvested and
• sent out
• Keep harvest and spray records up to date
• Order seeds, plants and farm supplies
• Help keep wastage low

Leading the Team

• Oversee the day-to-day farm operation
• Manage, train and motivate the farm team
• Plan daily work and keep staff records up to date
• Make sure the farm is a safe place to work and visit

Visitor Experience

• Make every visitor feel welcome and well looked after
• Help run pick-your-own days, events and workshops
• Support the farm stall with fresh, good-looking stock
