INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY - OPERATIONAL SECURITY INTERN

Gijima is recruiting 1 x Operational Security Intern in Pietermaritzburg. The intern will assist in providing monitoring security systems, assisting with vulnerability assessments and log analysis, supporting threat detection. Responsibilities also involve helping maintain security documentation, creating dashboards, and participating in incident response. Key skills for success are strong analytical abilities, programming/scripting knowledge good communication, teamwork, a proactive learning mindset, and familiarity with cybersecurity concepts like networks, firewalls, and operating systems. CANDIDATE MUST LIVE IN PIETERMARITZBURG.
The criteria is as follows:-
- Candidates must have completed a 3-year Degree, Diploma or National Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Security or related field
- ITIL v3 Foundation Certification and relevant Microsoft Certifications will be an added advantage
- Clear credit (ITC) and no criminal record
- Candidates must currently be unemployed
- Candidates must currently not be enrolled at any tertiary institution
- Candidates must not be participating on another learnership or internship program
- Candidates must have effective communication in written and verbal English
- Candidates must live in the Pietermaritzburg area – relocation is not an option
- Candidates must be under the age of 35 as at 1 August 2025
- Candidates must be a South African Citizen – African, Indian and coloured can apply
COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of Performance Monitoring
- Knowledge of Microsoft Configuration Manager/Intune (Patch Management)
- Knowledge of Azure – Microsoft Defender, EDR, Identity & Access Management
- Knowledge in VMware will be an added advantage
- Functional understanding of network, system, and application security concepts
- Familiarity with cybersecurity tools, operating systems and concepts like firewalls and intrusion detection. (Checkpoint, Darktrace, Windows, macOS)
