FinOps Engineer - Johannesburg

Salary: R95,000 per month
Contract: 6–12 months (project dependent)
Hybrid: 3 days onsite | 2 days remote

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced FinOps Engineer to join their Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE). The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and optimising cloud costs across AWS and Microsoft Azure, implementing FinOps best practices, and providing financial visibility to support business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor, analyse, and optimise AWS and Azure cloud spend.
• Develop cost reporting, dashboards, and forecasting.
• Implement tagging standards, cost allocation, and governance controls.
• Identify and drive cloud cost optimisation initiatives.
• Automate FinOps processes and reporting.
• Collaborate with Finance, Engineering, and Business stakeholders.
• Support budgeting, audit requirements, and cloud financial governance.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
• FinOps Certified Practitioner (or willingness to obtain).
• 5–8+ years' experience in FinOps, Cloud Engineering, Cloud Operations, or IT Financial Management.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and Azure cost management tools.
• Experience with cloud cost reporting, automation, and optimisation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

Advantageous

• AWS or Azure certifications.
• Experience with MagicOrange, Power BI, SQL, Python, PowerShell, ServiceNow, or Jira.
• Financial Services industry experience.
