Role: Senior DevOps Engineer (Cloud, Kubernetes & AI Platforms)
Location: Hybrid role (Johannesburg or Cape Town)

Following the acquisition of a specialist AI software business, our client is expanding their engineering team and are looking for an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to help support, deploy and evolve enterprise AI platforms used by customers across multiple industries both locally in South Africa as well as Globally.

You will become a key technical contact for clients from the start of each implementation, working alongside engineering teams on new projects, deployments, roll-outs, production support and platform improvements. You will play an integral role throughout the customer lifecycle—from implementation and onboarding to ongoing optimisation and operational support.  If you enjoy solving complex technical problems, working with modern cloud technologies, and supporting highly available AI platforms running in production, this is an exceptional opportunity!

Role:

• Supporting cloud-native AI applications deployed across AWS and Azure environments as well as some on-prem. 
• Troubleshooting Docker containers and Kubernetes workloads.
• Working alongside engineering teams on new projects, deployments, roll-outs, production support and platform improvements
• Investigating production issues using logs, metrics, dashboards and monitoring tools.
• Working closely with engineering teams during client implementations, platform deployments and solution roll-outs.
• Supporting CI/CD pipelines, release activities and deployment automation.
• Monitoring platform performance, reliability and availability.
• Assisting with incident response, root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Building strong technical relationships with customers and becoming a trusted technical advisor.
• Contributing to documentation, operational runbooks and support best practices.

 
Technical environment:

• AWS and Azure, Docker, Kubernetes (EKS and/or AKS), Terraform, Ansible, GitHub CI, Jenkins, Helm, ArgoCD
• Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch / Kibana, OpenTelemetry, Kafka & PostgreSQL

 
Requirements:

• 5–8 years’ experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Platform Support
• Strong hands-on experience supporting production cloud environments (AWS and/or Azure)
• Proven experience working with Kubernetes (EKS and/or AKS) and Docker
• Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes
• Strong Linux and networking fundamentals
• Experience working in environments involving incident response, root cause analysis, and production troubleshooting
• Exposure to enterprise-scale tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, ArgoCD, Helm, or similar
• Experience interacting with technical stakeholders or customers in a support or delivery capacity
• Python experience a plus
• Willing to do standby
