A leading power generation and manufacturing company is seeking a hands-on Design Department Manager to lead its multi-disciplinary design team. This is a true player-coach role, combining technical design work with team leadership, governance, product development, and continuous improvement.
This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys building teams, improving systems, developing products, and remaining actively involved in engineering and design.

• Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic Engineering, or similar
• 7+ years' experience in a manufacturing design environment
• 3+ years' leadership or technical lead experience
• Strong exposure to both mechanical and electrical design
• Experience with metal fabrication, power generation, or electrical equipment manufacturing advantageous
• Strong BOM, costing, and design governance experience
• ECSA registration advantageous
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers, draughtsmen, and designers
• Remain hands-on with mechanical and electrical design activities
• Drive new product development and product improvement initiatives
• Implement design standards, processes, and governance controls
• Oversee drawings, BOMs, costing inputs, and design releases
• Manage engineering change control and document management
• Support manufacturing, quality, procurement, and project teams
• Ensure designs are fit-for-purpose, manufacturable, and cost-effective
