About GRiT Accountants

At GRiT Accountants, we don't just process numbers; we partner with our clients to ensure their financial success. Based in Pretoria, our firm is built on the pillars of integrity, perseverance, and high-level professional service. We are currently expanding and looking for a motivated, bilingual graduate to join our team as a Trainee Accountant.

The Opportunity

This is a comprehensive training role designed for a candidate pursuing SAIPA or CIMA professional articles. You will gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment, moving beyond basic data entry into full-cycle accounting, payroll management, and complex tax compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Accounting: Perform full-function bookkeeping to Trial Balance for a diverse portfolio of clients using cloud-based platforms (Xero/Sage).
  • Taxation: Prepare and submit statutory tax returns, including VAT201, EMP201, and Income Tax (ITR12 & ITR14), via SARS eFiling.
  • Payroll Administration: Manage monthly payroll processing, issue payslips, and handle EMP501 reconciliations and UI-19 submissions.
  • Financial Reporting: Assist in drafting Annual Financial Statements for Companies, Close Corporations, and Trusts in accordance with IFRS for SMEs.
  • Secretarial & Compliance: Handle CIPC registrations, annual returns, and assist with Independent Reviews.
  • Client Advisory: Act as a professional point of contact for clients and liaise directly with SARS to resolve queries and audits.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: A completed B.Compt or equivalent Accounting degree.
  • Language: Fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English with excellent professional writing skills in both.
  • Career Path: A clear intention to register for and complete SAIPA or CIMA articles.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel. Knowledge of Xero, Sage Business Cloud, or Pastel Payroll is highly advantageous.
  • Core Competencies: High attention to detail, a proactive "problem-solving" mindset, and the "grit" to maintain excellence during peak tax seasons.

What We Offer

  • A structured environment to complete your professional logbook.
  • Mentorship from experienced professional accountants.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of industries and client types.
  • A modern, dynamic workspace in Pretoria.
  • Commission on targets reached.
