Job Overview:
 
Our client, a leading organisation responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Bakwena N1/N4 route, is seeking a Route Services Supervisor to oversee route patrol operations, incident management, communications and supporting operational functions.
 
The successful candidate will manage a team of 16 Patrol Drivers and 4 Communications Clerks, ensuring that incidents on the highway are responded to efficiently and within the agreed service timeframes.
 
This position requires a firm but approachable leader who can manage shift-based operational staff, maintain accountability and procedures, and engage professionally with drivers, law enforcement and other key stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Matric
  • Valid, unendorsed Code 08 driver's licence
  • Previous supervisory or management experience in a shift-based operational environment
  • Previous experience in security operations, transport operations, traffic/road operations, control-room environments or similar shift-based operational environments will be highly beneficial
  • Experience in incident management and operational response
  • Experience managing drivers, patrol staff, field teams or similar operational personnel
  • Strong people-management and disciplinary skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong administrative and reporting abilities
  • Computer literate
  • Good time-management and organisational skills
  • Strong understanding of compliance, procedures and operational protocols
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with incidents and difficult situations
  • Comfortable attending accident/incident scenes when required
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and supervise various Patrol Drivers and Communications Clerks
  • Ensure effective shift planning, handovers and operational coverage
  • Ensure highway patrols are conducted effectively to identify damage to road infrastructure and road furniture
  • Ensure patrol teams provide assistance to stranded motorists and support safe road-user journeys
  • Coordinate and respond to SOS calls and serious accidents/incidents on the N1/N4 Highway
  • Ensure sufficient resources are deployed to incidents within the required response timeframes
  • Attend serious incidents and accident scenes when required, including after-hours incidents
  • Manage incident reporting, recordkeeping and relevant operational documentation
  • Prepare and present required operational reports
  • Manage staff performance, conduct, compliance and adherence to company procedures
  • Address non-compliance and disciplinary matters appropriately and professionally
  • Build positive working relationships with shift-based drivers and communications staff while maintaining appropriate authority and accountability
  • Ensure staff are properly trained, equipped and supported to perform their duties
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and security requirements
  • Manage route patrol and communications functions to ensure effective incident response
  • Oversee the communications/control-centre function and ensure incidents, public queries and complaints are handled professionally
  • Monitor and manage fleet availability, vehicle condition and compliance
  • Ensure vehicle handover and related documentation is completed accurately
  • Monitor driver and vehicle compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Liaise professionally with law enforcement, emergency services and other relevant stakeholders
  • Check monthly manpower/timesheet information for accuracy and compliance before submission to payroll
  • Ensure operational procedures and service standards are consistently maintained
  • Provide operational support to the team and assist at incidents where required
  • Perform other operational and administrative duties as required
