Somerset West: My client, an esteemed lifestyle and retirement village operator, is seeking to employ a dedicated, caring Housekeeping & Laundry Supervisor with previous experience in a hospitality or healthcare environment for an establishment in Somerset West.
On-site role in Somerset West; only candidates residing in Somerset West or within close proximity will be considered
Purpose of the Role: To oversee and manage the housekeeping and laundry operations within a healthcare and hospitality environment, ensuring a warm, hygienic, and caring atmosphere for residents and guests. The Supervisor leads by example to maintain high hygiene and cleanliness standards, ensures infection control compliance, and fosters a supportive team culture.
Key Responsibilities Include but Are Not Limited To
- Supervising housekeeping and laundry staff and supporting daily operations
- Conducting regular inspections to ensure hygiene, cleanliness, and presentation across all areas including frail care units
- Providing hands-on assistance with housekeeping and laundry tasks including use of industrial equipment
- Promoting and overseeing laundry services within the estate
- Ensuring proper handling, sanitization, and prevention of cross-contamination of laundry
- Managing safe handling and disposal of medical and general waste
- Ensuring infection control compliance through routine checks and staff training
- Onboarding, training, and mentoring staff on hygiene and cleaning best practices
- Monitoring team performance and fostering a collaborative work environment
- Managing stock levels of cleaning materials and linen and reporting needs to management
- Coordinating staff scheduling with management
- Addressing resident and guest concerns regarding housekeeping or laundry services
- Reporting maintenance and safety issues to management
Criteria
- Previous experience in a housekeeping or supervisory role within hospitality or healthcare environment
- Strong leadership and team support skills with a caring, approachable manner
- Good communication skills in English; Afrikaans is an important advantage
- Excellent administration and organisational skills
- Good computer literacy
- High attention to detail, hygiene, and infection control standards
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays
- Hands-on, proactive approach with commitment to quality service
- Valid driver’s license advantageous; required to operate a golf cart around the establishment
Working Hours / Conditions
- Full-time position; rostered shifts including weekends and public holidays as required
- Market-related salary aligned with the role
