Karkloof Area – KwaZulu Natal: Our client is looking for an experienced and energetic Avocado Manager to join the team.
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the avocados however this person will also play a smaller part in the management of the dairy operation’s agronomic practices.
 
Only candidates with the relevant experience will be considered.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  •  Agricultural Diploma/Degree
  • At least 5 years’ experience in tree crops (avocados, citrus, or macadamias)
  • Must have good record keeping skills
  • Excellent at management and training of labour
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Attention to detail
  • Sense of urgency
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be hardworking, driven to succeed and initiative
  • Excellent communication
  • Able to work unsupervised, take instruction and undertake training and assessment
  • Must be able to hold themselves to exceptionally high standards
  • Ability to speak Zulu essential
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  •  Avocado Pears
  • All aspects relating to the establishment and care of the avocado pear operation.
    • Meeting with fertilizer and chemical reps and planning the associated programs to care for the Avo trees.
    • Oversite of the avocado operations daily.
    • Harvesting of fruit
    • Pruning of trees
    • Scouting for pests
    • Supervision of staff
    • Development of supervisors and team leaders
    • Training of labour
    • Calculating tasks and dealing with disciplinary issues
    • Admin and record keeping
    • Attending grower days and self-improvement
    • Basic Maintenance and management of tractors and equipment
  • Dairy Agronomic Operations
  • This aspect of the job will be determined by the applicant’s ability to perform the above avocado duties as their primary function, once this is proven they will be required to assist with the management of:
  • Maize Silage
  • Working with owner in all aspects of growing a maize silage crop
  • Cover Crops
  • Working with owner in all aspects of growing of cover crops behind the maize crop.
  • Pastures
  • Working with owner in all aspects of growing of irrigated and dryland pastures, i.e., planting, weekly fertilizing, spraying, maintenance of fences, mulching.
  • Supervision of general labour and tractor drivers
  • Training

  • Hire and Fire
  • Record keeping
