Nasarawa State – Nigeria: Our client is looking for a General Manager, Farming Services to join the team.
Only candidates with the relevant experience will be considered.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  •  Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science or any other Agric related discipline like Crop Science etc
  • Minimum of 10-15 years rich and relevant post-graduation experience in farm management
  • Post graduate qualifications like Master’s in Business Administration would be an added advantage.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  •  Provide management to staff and leadership to the department that aligns with the company’s business plan and overall strategic vision.
  • Formulate strategic vision for the farming department relating to area expansion, yield improvements, crop rotation etc
  • Prepare the long term and annual farming budgets and forecasts, and all capital expenditure proposals in compliance with company policy guidelines
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee daily operational execution, direct and indirect, across the department.
  • Work with the company’s agricultural committee to provide on-ground feedback on operations and progress as well as implement recommendations provided from the committee.
  • Oversee the development of farming policies and procedures, including the development programme and the annual budget requirements in conjunction with executive management
  • Work closely and liaise with Sourcing, Warehousing and Distribution department to provide all the necessary materials (fertilizers, tools etc.) needed for effective farming programmes
  • Work closely and liaise with the security department to ensure that no planted and harvested crops are stolen from the farm and warehouse respectively, and farm assets such as centre pivots and machinery are safe.
  • Ensure departmental and operational data is thoroughly and accurately recorded into the company’s farm management software, including all operational activities (by field), stock, rainfall, scouting, pest monitoring, etc and maintain a comprehensive diary
  • Ensure a positive team atmosphere and establish a good working relationship with all farm workers (casual and permanent).
  •  Make recommendations (if need be) with good business justification for the expansion/acquisition of more land for farming activities
  • Participate in any further education and upgrading of skills required for oneself and other team members through field days and any courses that relate to their responsibilities
  • Make periodic (weekly or as required) presentation on farming activities to the Chief Operating Officer
  • Any other duties as assigned by the COO
