Job Purpose:
As a Material Handling Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and effective
transportation and storage of materials within the mining site. This role includes managing a team of
workers, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, coordinating with other departments, and optimizing
the use of resources and equipment.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of material handlers and equipment operators.
- Conduct regular team meetings to discuss performance, safety, and operational improvements.
- Develop and implement training programs for staff on safe and efficient material handling procedures.
- Esure all material handling activities comply with safety standards and regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Report and address any safety hazards, incidents, or near-misses promptly.
- Coordinate the movement of materials within the mining site, including ore, waste, and other supplies.
- Develop and implement efficient material handling strategies to minimize delays and costs.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure the availability of necessary materials.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of material handling equipment such as conveyors, loaders, and trucks.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to schedule regular equipment inspections and maintenance.
- Ensure proper usage and operation of equipment to prevent breakdowns and extend lifespan.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as production, maintenance, and logistics, to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicate effectively with team members and management regarding operational status, challenges, and requirements.
- Prepare and present regular reports on material handling activities, performance metrics, and improvement plans.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.
- Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance material handling efficiency.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to material handling in mining.
Minimum requirements:
- Diploma / degree in a related field.
- 5 years' experience in raw material handling within a mining or manufacturing environment.
- 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Excellent knowledge of material handling equipment and techniques
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A valid driver's licence and own vehicle.
