Our client is a forward-thinking mining organisation with a clear vision—to be a globally significant, low-cost producer of strategic commodities essential for a sustainable future. Their flagship operation is positioned on Zimbabwe’s renowned Great Dyke, combining a significant open-pit phase and a long-life underground mining component, supported by ongoing studies into expanding value through base-metal reef utilisation.
They are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with strong mining-sector exposure and a minimum of 8 years’ electrical engineering experience to join their dynamic team. This position will be based in Bryanston, Gauteng. The successful candidate will contribute to the planning, design, implementation, and optimisation of electrical infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective power systems across all project phases.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng / BSc) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ electrical engineering experience within the mining industry (surface and/or underground experience advantageous).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems used in mining environments, including HV/LV reticulation, substations, MCCs, switchgear, power distribution networks, and plant electrical systems.
  • Proven experience in the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical infrastructure on mining operations.
  • Familiarity with protection systems, SCADA, instrumentation, and automation/control systems.
  • Understanding of electrical safety standards, mining regulations, and compliance requirements (SANS, MHSA, etc.).
  • Proficiency in relevant electrical engineering design software and tools.
  • Professional registration (PrEng/PrTechEng) with ECSA or progress toward registration is highly advantageous.
  • Strong project management, contractor oversight, and technical reporting skills.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, review, and optimise electrical infrastructure for mining operations, including power distribution systems, substations, transformers, MCCs, and control systems.
  • Support feasibility studies, conceptual planning, and detailed engineering design for electrical components of large-scale mining and processing projects.
  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical equipment to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, safety standards, and statutory requirements.
  • Perform electrical load studies, network modelling, and system reliability assessments.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, civil, mining, and processing teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Prepare technical reports, project schedules, cost estimates, and risk assessments related to electrical works.
  • Manage contractors, suppliers, and external consultants to ensure quality and timely project execution.
  • Develop and maintain electrical safety systems, procedures, and compliance documentation.
  • Support operational teams with troubleshooting, optimisation, and continuous improvement initiatives for electrical systems.
