Director: Procurement
One of our clients in the higher education sector is seeking a Director: Procurement for a 6-month contract to lead and manage their procurement and supply chain operations. This senior leadership role requires 6–8 years of relevant experience at a Director or senior management level, ideally within procurement, supply chain management, or a related field. Experience in higher education is an advantage. The successful candidate will be based in Midrand, Gauteng.
Minimum Requirements:
- Relevant Degree or Diploma in Supply Chain, Procurement, Finance, or a related field.
- 6–8 years’ experience in procurement or supply chain management at senior or director level.
- Experience within a higher education setting is advantageous.
- Strong computer literacy, including MS Office Suite.
- Vehicle and valid Driver's License.
Roles and Responsibilities:Strategic Procurement Leadership
- Support executive leadership in achieving departmental and institutional procurement objectives.
- Drive strategic planning initiatives and strengthen procurement governance.
- Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships and internal partnerships.
End-to-End Supply Chain Oversight
- Manage the full procurement lifecycle, from sourcing to contract award.
- Ensure compliance with National Treasury regulations and internal policies.
- Lead tender adjudication processes in collaboration with executive committees.
- Forecast demand and coordinate sourcing of goods and services across departments.
Quality Assurance, Compliance & Risk Management
- Maintain integrity, impartiality, and transparency within the procurement function.
- Identify and proactively manage supply chain risks.
- Ensure compliance with SHE (Safety, Health & Environmental) policies.
- Implement quality assurance systems to meet internal and external audit standards.
Policies, Procedures & Governance
- Contribute to developing and reviewing SCM policies and procedures.
- Align procurement practices with legislative frameworks and institutional values.
- Support continuous improvement through audits and stakeholder engagement.
Training, User Support & Staff Development
- Facilitate orientation and training for staff on SCM policies and procedures.
- Maintain training schedules, registers, and development initiatives.
- Oversee recruitment, performance management, coaching, and staff development for the procurement team.
Financial & Resource Management
- Assist in preparing operating and capital budgets for SCM.
- Manage asset procurement, recording, and compliance with financial policies.
- Ensure accurate and efficient account and payment processes.
Reporting, Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare strategic and operational reports for executive and governance structures.
- Implement best practices to improve procurement efficiency.
- Identify trends, manage risks proactively, and ensure zero audit qualifications.
