An international supplier and processor of food products is seeking a dynamic Junior SHE Officer to implement and maintain safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant food standards and regulatory bodies.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Must have completed a National Senior Certificate
  • Relevant certifications such as SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent will be an advantage
  • Must have a sound knowledge of South African safety regulations and standards, particularly those applicable to the food processing industry.
  • Previous experience in a similar role or within the food processing industry will be advantageous
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively communicate safety-related information to diverse audiences will be required for this role
  • Must be able to identify potential safety hazards and develop effective solutions
  • Attention to detail in conducting safety inspections, documenting incidents, and implementing corrective actions is important for this role
  • Must be proficient in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software applications for safety management and documentation

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing, implementing, and regularly reviewing safety policies and procedures in accordance with local regulations and industry best practices.
  • Conducting regular safety inspections of the facility, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Developing and deliver safety training programs for employees, focusing on topics such as hazard awareness, PPE usage, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Investigating accidents, near misses, and other safety incidents to determine root causes and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant safety regulations, standards, and codes of practice, including those set forth by regulatory bodies such as the Department of Labour and the National Institute for Occupational Health.
  • Maintaining accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, and safety-related documentation as required by law and company policies.
  • Developing and maintaining emergency response plans, conducting drills, and ensuring that emergency equipment and procedures are in place and functional.
  • Promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization by fostering awareness, participation, and accountability among all employees.
