A large manufacturing company within the Mineral Processing Equipment seeks the above to direct all technical operations, provide technical support to customers, approve cost estimates and proposals and manage staff in the technical area.
Minimum requirements for the role:
  • A Mechanical Engineering Degree is essential.
  • 10 years’ experience in a technical environment, including 5 years’ experience in a managerial role.
  • Professional Engineer (Mechanical) will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the relevant legislation and the codes of good practice (e.g., labour legislation, OHSA, ISO standards, etc.).
  • Proficiency in simulation software is an advantage.
  • Computer literacy is essential with good working knowledge Microsoft packages.
  • Strong planning, organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A valid driver’s licence is essential.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Providing technical support and advice to internal and external customers when necessary.
  • Approving of critical designs according to applicable standards.
  • Ensuring machines are maintained for the timely production of products.
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues when they occur.
  • Preparing and updating technical procedures within the company.
  • Compiling, monitoring and updating intellectual property documents.
  • Utilizing new technology in production to create higher quality products cost effectively.
  • Reviewing and improving technical processes within the company.
  • Preparing and presenting annual budget.
  • Monitoring, controlling and updating expenditure on a monthly basis.
  • Planning, selecting and developing of staff and ensuring training records are maintained.
  • Ensuring the company’s HR and disciplinary policies are followed.
  • Managing staff in compliance with the company’s performance management system.
  • Setting objectives and assigning work priorities to suitable staff members.
  • Attending safety meetings and updating attendees to current legislation.
  • Monitoring the safe use of machinery and evaluating products as per the legal obligations of the employer and quality standards.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legal and statutory requirements.
