Requirements

Work Experience Requirements: This position requires a determined and highly self-motivated individual with at least 8 to 10 years of experience in the same or a similar built environment, preferably in a supervisory capacity for at least the last 5 years. Specific emphasis in terms of experience is required in the following:
  • Multi-storey residential experience
  • Demonstrated track record of achievement in a role of similar scope and size
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Ability to manage budgets and tender requirements together with a workable knowledge of procurement principles, financial indicators, and an understanding of profit and loss.
  • In-depth knowledge of project site dynamics, priorities, and key focus areas.
  • Able to monitor, analyze and manage costs and performance.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction site Health, Safety & Environment requirements
  • Excellent written/verbal and oral communication ability
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction site architectural/engineering drawings
  • Advanced problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask
Education Requirements:
  • Registered SACPCMP Pr.CM
  • Minimum of a Matriculation / Grade 12 Certificate
  • National Tertiary Degree/Certificate in Civil Engineering or similar
  • National Technical Certificate/Diploma in Construction
  • Formal Certificate/Diploma in Health, Safety & Environment Management

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, update, and manage project program.
  • Manage project timelines and milestones.
  • Manage project scope together with any changes.
  • Manage project budget, costs, and procurement principles.
  • Adhere to specifications & design details.
  • Ensure that subcontractor appointments are done timeously with QS.
  • Prepare EOT notifications & claims.
  • Prepare project progress reports, as required.
  • Prepare internal management reports.
  • Record in daily site diary and proper time and attendance records.
  • Manage correspondence to the client and/or client’s agent.
  • Liaise with the professional team on technical and admin matters.
  • Drive Quality standards and performance levels.
  • Assist in material, equipment, and resource procurement.
  • Manage and direct staff, sub-contractors, and suppliers.
  • Mentor, develop & provide on-the-job training to direct staff.
  • Evaluate staff performance and contributions.
  • Engage with & establish strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Conduct/review project risk assessments and mitigating actions.
  • Ensure OH&S standards are in place and monitored.
  • Review and assist in costings of additional work required.
  • Obtain quotations for work required.
  • Manage the delivery of all outcomes.
  • Conduct/attend site progress and technical meetings.
  • Arrange and conduct subcontractor meetings.
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance to agreed requirements.
  • Ensure that plant & tools records are fully kept up to date.
  • Ensure that plant & tools are maintained & serviced.
  • Approve subcontractor & supplier claims.
  • Ensure that material quality tests are done & submitted on time.
  • Ensure that quality assurance sheets are correctly completed

Job Description

The Construction Manager has overall responsibility for the assigned project(s) from an operational perspective. The projects managed by this position contribute directly to building and demonstrating the brand value proposition of Atuba Construction. This position is the primary point of contact for members of the public, clients, construction supervisors, sub-contractors, the professional team, and any other stakeholders and hence there is a strong requirement for excellent communication skills, both written and oral, as well as for a level of Intellectual and Emotional Intelligence that reflects the ability to present oneself and interact successfully with a wide and diverse range of individuals and organizations. Accordingly, the incumbent is also expected to have astute Relationship Management skills and operationally be exceptionally well versed in all Construction disciplines with particular emphasis on Health, Safety, and Environment requirements, Cost & Management Control, Reporting and Tracking, and Risk Management. Strong leadership skills and presentation are considered a base requirement for this position, with focused and professional people management skills. Furthermore, the Construction Manager needs to form a strong bond with the Quantity Surveyor, who is a key part of the team and jointly carry responsibility for the execution and delivery of the operational and bottom-line financial success of the project.
