Our client is seeking a Site Engineer to join their company
Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • 4-5 years of experience as a site engineer, civil engineer or an equivalent role.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing and supervising construction projects.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, other software.
  • Ability to manage multiple construction projects at various stages of their lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials and regulations.
  • Competent in assessing, interpreting and presenting survey reports and other critical data for stakeholders and shareholders.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with effective communication.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and a focus on delivering high-quality results.

Job Duties 

Site Management
  • Oversee and manage construction activities at the site, ensuring adherence to project specifications, codes, and safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, identify potential issues and ensure compliance with engineering and design requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, architects and subcontractors to ensure timely project completion.
  • Supervising and managing construction projects from start to finish, ensuring adherence to project plans and specifications.
  • Assign and oversee all members of site staff.
  • Manage Site Engineers & Foremen on more than 1 project.
  • Maintain productivity on site in line with the programme.
  • Manage the programme by ensuring all stakeholders are attending while not overspending on trades
  • Representing the company at project and technical meetings
  • Ensure monthly Reports, QA Docs, Registers and other are up to date.
 
Technical
  • Analysing and interpreting engineering drawings, survey reports and other technical documentation to guide the construction process.
  • Reporting project updates, milestones and potential risks to the project manager and key stakeholders.
  • Providing technical guidance and expertise to resolve construction-related challenges.
  • Spend time on-site checking all forms of work taking place
  • Understanding construction details and making sure Foremen understand them
  • Drawing up method statements for tasks on-site
  • Doing site inspections related to all trades in line with QA policy
  • Managing record keeping on-site incl. cubes, test results, delivery notes, etc.
  • Manage all foremen and staff on site.

Cost Control
  • Planning and overseeing allocating resources, materials and equipment to optimise project efficiency.
  • Monitoring project costs, identifying cost-saving opportunities and adhering to budget constraints.
  • Place orders for approval by Site Agent/ Contracts Manager
  • Do not order materials unnecessarily
  • Manage Breakages and materials stock
  • Meet with site QS daily to do site walkabouts and identify claim items
  • Maintain and issue variances/ instructions to QS and ensure that these are submitted timeously
  • Substantiate capital expenditure and hire costs if required

Reporting & Documentation

  • Analyse and interpret engineering plans, aerial photography, blueprints, topographical &   geologic data, and technical drawings to plan and execute construction activities.
  • Have fortnightly reports concluded timeously for checking by Site Agent/ PM/ CM
  • Ensure adjustments to programme are justified by Delays & or EOT's
  • Ensure photographic reports are taken daily as work progresses
  • Check QA sheets and site QA weekly and sign off on it
  • Draft IRS for checking and updating by the Site Agent or Contracts Manager
  • Submit EOT's, NOPDs, etc. under the guidance of CM/PM/ Site Agent
  • Have fortnightly reports concluded timeously for checking by Site Agent/ PM/ CM
  • Ensure adjustments to the programme are justified by Delays & or EOT's
  • Ensure 15 photos are taken daily as work progresses
  • Check QA sheets and site QA weekly and sign off on it
  • Draft IRS for checking and updating by Site Agent or Contracts Manager
  • Submit EOT's, NOPD's, etc. under guidance of CM/PM/ Site Agent
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including progress reports, site diaries,
  • Change orders and quality control measures.
Supervisory Duties
  • Maintain active involvement in all projects by visiting sites and interacting with contract managers
  • Ensure staff meet deadlines, ensure that discipline is maintained in terms of duties,
  • punctuality, meeting attendance and communications
Other Duties 
  • Coordinate the procurement and delivery of construction materials, ensuring their compliance with industry standards.
  • Identifying potential risks and implementing preventive measures to minimise project delays, cost overruns and safety hazards.
