Techno Park, Stellenbosch. Our client in the aerospace industry is seeking to employ a junior Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineer who will be responsible for the mechanical design, analysis, and qualification of components and assemblies for satellite communication systems.

This role requires a hands-on engineer with 2 years working experience and a strong analytical capability and experience in designing for demanding environments. You will also contribute to technical decision-making and improve engineering processes.

Responsibilities 

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for satellite communication systems
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings
• Perform structural (FEA), thermal, and vibration analysis for harsh environments (rocket launch and space)
• Support environmental qualification testing (vibration, thermal vacuum cycling, etc.)
• Analyse test data and produce detailed engineering reports
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams and suppliers to optimise producibility and cost
• Contribute to design reviews and engineering best practices
• Provide technical support to cross-functional teams (e.g. design and development, sales and marketing)
• Support efforts to improve mechanical product quality standards, including working with suppliers to address quality issues

Requirements 

• BEng / BSc Eng / MEng / MSc in Mechanical, Mechatronic or Aerospace Engineering
• 2+ years of relevant mechanical design experience
• Proven experience in mechanical CAD modelling and engineering drawings
• Strong background in structural (FEA) and/or thermal analysis, including experience with tools
• MS Office suite

• CAD (e.g. SolidWorks / RhinoCAD / SolidEdge, etc.)
• FEA tools (e.g. ANSYS / Abaqus, etc.)
• Engineering analysis and problem-solving
• Design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA)
