We have an opportunity for a Fixed Term Contract for a motivated Electrical Engineering Intern to support engineering, maintenance, and project activities within a manufacturing facility to join our team in Cape Town.
The intern will assist with electrical and instrumentation work, support plant improvement projects, and gain hands-on experience with industrial electrical systems, controls, automation, and manufacturing equipment.
This role is suited to someone with a basic understanding of electrical systems, instrumentation, and Delta PLCs, who is willing to work hands-on in a manufacturing plant environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with electrical engineering and maintenance projects related to plant operations, equipment upgrades, process improvements, and reliability improvements.
  • Support electrical and instrumentation work on manufacturing equipment, control panels, sensors, motors, drives, and related plant systems.
  • Assist with basic Delta PLC tasks, including input/output checks, basic troubleshooting, program support, and documentation.
  • Help troubleshoot electrical faults, instrumentation issues, control system problems, and equipment downtime.
  • Assist with installation, testing, calibration, and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation equipment.
  • Support updates to electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, control schematics, equipment records, and project documentation.
  • Work with engineers, maintenance technicians, and production teams to identify issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and analysis for plant improvement and engineering projects.
  • Follow all site safety procedures, electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout requirements, and company policies.
  • Participate in continuous improvement, reliability, and efficiency initiatives within the manufacturing facility.
Qualifications
  • Recently completed a degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Instrumentation, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles, industrial electrical systems, and instrumentation.
  • Basic knowledge of Delta PLCs, PLC logic, input/output systems, and troubleshooting concepts.
  • Ability to read or learn to read electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, control schematics, and related technical documents.
  • Familiarity with sensors, transmitters, control panels, motors, drives, and manufacturing equipment is advantageous.
  • Hands-on problem-solving ability and willingness to work in a plant environment.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with basic computer tools such as Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to follow instructions from engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
  • Commitment to safe work practices in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Exposure to Delta PLC programming or troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of instrumentation calibration and process control.
  • Experience with electrical maintenance, industrial equipment, automation, or manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with CAD or electrical drawing software is an advantage.
  • Strong interest in manufacturing, automation, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
Working Conditions
  • Work will be performed mainly in the manufacturing plant environment, with approximately 20% office-based work.
  • The role may involve exposure to operating machinery, electrical panels, noise, heat, dust, confined or elevated areas, and general plant conditions.
  • Personal protective equipment must be worn where required.
  • Physical activity may include walking through the plant, standing for extended periods, climbing ladders, accessing ceiling areas, inspecting equipment, and assisting with installations or troubleshooting tasks.
  • Work may require safely accessing electrical and instrumentation equipment located at height or above production areas.
