Senior Java Full Stack Engineer

Location: Pretoria, South Africa
Work Model: Hybrid
Contract Duration: 3 Years


We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Full Stack Engineer to join a high-performing Agile/DevOps team responsible for delivering secure, scalable, cloud-native applications and platform capabilities. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on engineer who is passionate about modern software development, AI-assisted engineering, automation, and continuous improvement.
You will play a key role in designing, developing, testing, deploying, and operating enterprise-grade applications while leveraging AI coding assistants and cloud-native technologies as part of the delivery process.

  • Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct system analysis, solution design, development, testing, and deployment within an Agile/DevOps environment.
    • Design and build secure, scalable, and maintainable applications and platform services.
    • Develop high-quality solutions using Java, TypeScript, Angular, and related technologies.
    • Create solutions using cloud-native toolchains and AI-assisted development practices.
    • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to improve deployment agility and quality.
    • Automate development, testing, deployment, and operational processes.
    • Ensure applications adhere to cybersecurity and secure coding standards.
    • Resolve complex Tier 2 and Tier 3 production support issues.
    • Plan and execute upgrades of existing applications and platform capabilities.
    • Collaborate with architects, analysts, developers, testers, operations, and business stakeholders.
    • Contribute to technical design reviews, code reviews, mentoring, and engineering best practices


    Essential Skills & Experience

    Development & Frameworks

    • 10+ years' experience in Java application development
    • Strong experience with:
      • Java

      • Angular
      • JSF
      • RESTful APIs
      • Enterprise application development

    Application & Web Platforms

    • GlassFish
    • GlassFish Micro
    • Quarkus
    • Apache
    • Nginx

    DevOps & CI/CD

    Experience with:

    • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or equivalent
    • Understanding of AI-assisted engineering practices
    • Familiarity with context engineering principles
    • Knowledge of responsible AI, guardrails, and AI evaluation techniques

    Qualifications

  • IT Degree or Diploma
